Peru 100%

dark chocolate

Conching time: 40 hrs.

100% – you can’t get more cacao than this. A single origin chocolate that offers cacao on the palate and absolutely nothing else. Made with Peruvian cacao from Cacao de Aroma, the taste and texture are softened with added cocoa butter, giving the impression of a bar of far lower cacao content. This bar is pure, without added sugar or other ingredients.

When we visited the cacao farmers of Cacao de Aroma, we made most of the journey on foot or in boats over riverways, through completely untouched lands. We felt as if we were traveling through a giant nature reserve.

From the river, we could see the lush, green hills that used to grow coca plants. Until recently, this region was famous for coca cultivation. Now, the farmers of the new Cacao de Aroma cooperative grow organic cacao trees instead. This is a huge opportunity for them, and an extremely important project for us to support. Cacao de Aroma exported their first cacao beans to us at Zotter, in Austria. We were pleased to host the cacao farmers when they visited, strengthening a close and long-standing cooperation.

When we arrived in Tocache, the entire town had gathered, with people everywhere, and indigenous singers performing.

We were the first chocolate producers to ever visit them. Since then, we have put our expertise and passion into the manufacture of this chocolate, hoping to bring to the rest of the world some of the joy we felt in Tocache, alongside these cacao farmers.
